RPM Street Smart
RPM Street Smart Clutch systems are just that – Street Smart. They strike a balance between increased torque capacity, and therefore performance, and drivability. Our engineering department redesigns the cover assembly to provide increased torque capacity while maintaining comfortable pedal effort and feel. Refinements include upgraded diaphragm, improved geometry and a Non Hexaralent Zinc finish.
RPM Performance Clutch Plate Options:
When choosing a clutch plate to suit the RPM Civer Assembly you have two decisions:
The first decision is the type of friction material. Organic material offers the best driveability, while cerametallic friction materials offer increased holding capacity and superior thermal properties. The concession is that cerametallic materials are a more aggressive friction material and therefore harsher in terms of modulation.
The second decision is the degree of cushion or dampening incorporated in the clutch. The more dampening the better driveability. Reductions in dampening will reduce shift times and accelerate the delivery of maximum torque capacity, however the concession is harsher operation. The four levels of clutch plate available are:

Cover Assembly
A high capacity cover assembly increases
the torque capacity of a clutch system.
The additional strength is achieved
by the use of components designed to
provide the strength, thermal properties
and durability required to increase torque
capacity and reduce slipping over a wider
temperature range.
Refinements include upgraded diaphragm,
improved geometry and a Non Hexaralent
Zinc Chromote finish.

Level 1: Organic
A sprung centre type clutch plate designed
for drive-ability. These clutch plates use an
Organic friction material resistant to slippage
and burst. They provide good pedal feel and
progressive take up when matched with a
high capacity cover assembly.
|
Level 2: SSCC
A sprung centre type clutch plate with
cerametallic friction material bonded to a
backing plate. There is dampening between
the backing plates improving modulation.
Torque capacity is increased however the
concession is a slightly harsher engagement
when compared to a clutch plate using
organic friction material. |
Level 3: SSC
A sprung centre type clutch plate with
cerametallic buttons rivetted to the disc.
This type of plate typically has less inertia
than a standard plate and this can translate
into a faster shift with a reduced shift effort.
This type of plate retains a sprung centre to
dampen the impact and loads that reach the
drive train. This type of plate can be harsh
during operation and it is not suitable for
being purposely slipped. The Ceramic buttons
increase the torque capacity of the clutch
without requiring an increase in clutch size. |
|
Level 4: SC
The SC option is a rigid clutch plate with
cerametallic buttons rivetted to the disc.
The cerametallic buttons increase the torque
capacity of the clutch without requiring an
increase in clutch size.
The cerametallic material has a high
coefficient of friction. This provides a very
positive engagement and is either in or out.
It is not suitable for being purposely slipped.
